Our premium undyed merino wool sliver is perfect for eco-conscious crafters who want to use natural materials for their projects. It is perfect for stuffing soft toys and cushions and can also be used for needle felting projects.
This product differs from traditional toy stuffing as it is not pre-shredded. It comes in a continued length, just pull off a lump and pull apart until you get the texture and density required, and start filling!
Wool is a great material for filling because of lots of naturally occurring properties. One of its main properties is that it is hygroscopic. This means that as the humidity of the surrounding air rises and falls, the fibre absorbs and releases water vapour. Heat is generated and retained during the absorption phase, which makes wool multi-climatic and trans-seasonal. When it needs to be, it is a natural insulator, reacting to changes in body temperature. This capacity to absorb and release moisture also makes it naturally breathable and odour resistant. Wool is also very resilient, which means when using it in toys, compared to synthetic alternatives, it is able to retain its shape in the long term without sagging or losing its shape, which is particularly welcome for our hand knitted toys. It is the softest, cleanest and most environmentally-friendly type of filling you can use.
What else can this wool filling be used for?
This is a natural undyed 100% merino wool which can be spun, dyed, wet felted, needle felted or used as stuffing. It has been carefully washed and has not been bleached or subjected to any chemical processes.
It is the natural choice for children’s toy and pet bed stuffing, as well as pillows, cushions and other household items. Natural wool’s advantages over synthetic alternatives are clear; it is hypoallergenic, odour resistant, and a natural fire retardant.
